Is it being made use of in this case?  If you use the official binary
build of john-1.7.9-jumbo-5 (john179j5w.zip), then it brings its own
copies of relevant Cygwin DLLs.

I've just tried almost the same command on a Linux build of
john-1.7.9-jumbo-5 - it works just fine.  Indeed, it's a different
build, the system is different, and I don't have your specific
hash-10-2011.txt, so I used another file with NTLM hashes.

Looks like not the official build.  I think the official one would print
SSE2i here (due to the -sse2i make target I used).

Can you try the official build and report back, please?

Of course, it'd be desirable to figure out the cause of the segfault on
your build anyway...
