no, mysql05 != ms-sql05

for mysql4.1 and higher there was a patch http://openwall.com/lists/john-users/2007/11/10/3

and jumbopatch already contains changes needed
the right syntax is:
-format=mysql-sha1
tere:*5AD8F88516BD021DD43F171E2C785C69F8E54ADB
