Thank you for posting this to john-users!  That was just appropriate.

However, I think you should not have cross-posted it to john-dev.  In
general, I think we shouldn't be cross-postings things between john-dev
and john-users.  Whenever we feel like doing so, we should instead post
only to john-users, and post a brief note about the john-users posting
and a reminder to john-dev that everyone on john-dev is supposed to also
be on john-users.  (This is not exactly the case currently, but
presumably those who are only on john-dev accept seeing only part of the
discussion, for whatever reason or lack thereof.)  There's also a
possible special case of moving a discussion from one list to the other,
described here:

BTW, the new numbers are: 1500+ on john-users, ~250 on john-dev, ~90 who
are on john-dev but not on john-users.
