You generally don't need to install John the Ripper - typically, you'd
extract it from its distribution archive and use it from there, without
installing.

If you're still having difficulty, you'll need to describe what you have
(operating system, what you downloaded, etc.) and what you're doing in
some detail (how you try to install, why you even want to install, and
what your actual goal of using John the Ripper is).
