It has Incremental mode which basically brute forces every character: [Incremental:Alpha] File = /usr/share/john/alpha.chr MinLen = 7 MaxLen = 9 CharCount = 26 But none of john descriptions tells how to use incremental mode with patterns. For example: Password between 7 to 9 characters. First character Uppercase. Other characters - alphabetic. John has rules like: ?i ?a ?a ?a ?a ?a ?a ?a ?a But rules are for wordlists. I tried my word list as an empty line, but that did not catch up. Are there rules for incremental mode? Or there are some ways like: Incremental:Upper + Incremental:Alpha, where upper is set to MinLenand MaxLen = 1. You get the idea. <https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail&utm_term=icon> Virus-free. www.avast.com <https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail&utm_term=link> <#DAB4FAD8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2>
