Agreed, although I didn't think of that, yet. > A general question we may discuss is whether we should possibly bundle > password reset tools and such along wth JtR (and then their discussion > would become on-topic here), or keep JtR as a password cracker only. That is an interesting question: We have things like cisco2john.pl that tries to de-obfuscate obfuscated passwords for cracking actual hashes. That's a grey zone. Personally I'd be fine with including scripts (in Jumbo) to de-obfuscate anything. I agree it's off-scope but it's also a password seed issue, and as such it's totally viable. magnum > On Thu, Dec 27, 2018 at 03:31:45PM -0200, alexandre_drake@...oo.com.br wrote: >> Dear Dhiru Kholia, >> >> >> Thank you for the new information. I really apreciate it aus till now I have no success in this matter and still have my Samnsung partially locked by a encrypted password. I saw in Github.com that there is some discussions about this topic, for example "decrypt-msr-files-v2.py". Although I work with IT, I am not a developer anymore...so not familiar with new languages and technicks. As far as I could understand the code was written in python but I don't know this language. If it??s the case of installing a compilator and compile the code in my note I think I can do but I would apreciate some guidelines to do this job and finally access my external HD Samsung. >> Could you indicate this steps to help me or any documentation to make it easier to me ? >> >> >> Thanks a lot, >> >> >> Alexandre >> >> >> -----Mensagem original----- >> De: Dhiru Kholia [mailto:dhiru.kholia@...il.com] >> Enviada em: ter??a-feira, 25 de dezembro de 2018 07:49 >> Para: john-users@...ts.openwall.com >> Cc: alexandre_drake@...oo.com.br >> Assunto: Re: [john-users] Break a virtual drive >> >> >> On Tue, Jul 7, 2015 at 4:28 PM <alexandre_drake@...oo.com.br> wrote: >>> I lost the password of the Secret Zone in my external Samsung HD. Well, I know my password has no more than 7 or 8 digits but I am not familiar with the techniques of breaking passwords. I thought to use a "brute force" software but have read that would need a dump archive and have no idea how to extract it from the HD software. >> >> >> This thread has a happy ending. >> >> >> Check out https://github.com/kholia/SecretZone project. >> >> >> This allows one to decrypt any MSR file without any password. >> >> >> -- >> Dhiru >
