Subject: how to unsubscribe

Hi,

As it happens, some people who subscribe to john-users are not used to
mailing lists and then have difficulty unsubscribing when they want to.
They end up doing weird things such as e-mailing their unsubscription
requests right to the mailing list posting address (obviously, we don't
approve those for distribution to list subscribers), and moreover
sometimes they do it from non-subscribed addresses (so we can't even
identify and unsubscribe them manually). Thus, I intend to be making
postings like this one once in a long while (hopefully, no more often
than once a year).

We have this wiki page with instructions on unsubscribing:

http://openwall.info/wiki/john/unsubscribe

The most common difficulty people are having is not recalling their
subscribed address correctly. This address may be found embedded in the
Return-Path header of every message arriving to you through the list.
Here are some instructions on how you may see the full headers:

https://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/19.html

Once you have the correct address, you may enter it into the input box
at http://www.openwall.com/john/#lists and click the "Unsubscribe from
john-users" button. You will also need to reply to the automated
confirmation request.

If you still experience any difficulties unsubscribing, please contact
us at john-users-admin at lists.openwall.com. Please be sure to forward
to us any message you've received through the list with full technical
headers included, so that we'd be able to determine the address you're
subscribed at.

Alexander
