I think the first thing you should do is follow this advice:

> configure: WARNING: * System's 'as' can't assemble AVX instructions. *
> configure: WARNING: * Fixing this may yield better performance.      *
> configure: WARNING: * See last section of doc/INSTALL                *

...and then re-run configure.

Another thing to try is `./configure --disable-native-tests` and/or 
other things (try tab-completing --disable-)
