I am not aware of such patches to John the Ripper.

This is off-topic for this mailing list, but since I am responding to
your message anyway - there are some non-free tools listed at:

	http://www.openwall.com/passwords/microsoft-word

One of those - GuaWord - will run on Linux/x86 (only a pre-compiled
binary is available).  There's also an older and much slower but free
(as in beer) version of GuaWord here:
