This is being suggested once in a while, and I agree that it should be
implemented.  The only reason it's not there is my not spending
sufficient time on John development these days.  It's high time I put
out a John 1.7 release, so that's what I should concentrate on (update
the documentation, etc.)

Another related feature that's being asked for is support for an
include directive within rulesets.
