I saw that you just did, but I didn't mean you'd fully drop the "#ifdef
__XOP__" workaround - rather, I thought you'd keep it as "#if 0".  I'd
like to be able to easily re-test this code version on further occasions.
It's just 10 lines extra or so.  It also serves as a comment-alike, to
illustrate the similarity and differences between the three cases that
follow.  I suggest that you re-introduce it as an "#if 0" block.
