I got the answer from Atom: There isn't actually any AVX2 support in 
HashCat. I assumed there was, because he supplies a binary called AVX2 - 
but that's just the same SSE2/XOP code compiled with -mavx2.

He also doesn't seem to plan on adding AVX2, he focuses on oclHashcat.
