All hmac formats' valid() does this: I thought I saw this triggered with Victor's 7z "hash" from: http://www.openwall.com/lists/john-users/2013/08/17/1 but I am not able to trigger that problem now. Perhaps I recalled incorrectly, or maybe something has changed. Alexander
