I've just changed ROUNDS_MIN in cryptsha512_fmt_plug.c from 1000 to 1,
then my pw999 is detected as 999 different salts.  Thanks!

This did not crack the AIX samples at rounds=64, though.  I don't know
why not.  Maybe something else differs as well.
