The "problem" exists in john-1.7.9-jumbo-5 as well. But so far probably hardly anybody knows that there is another usage of --subformat besides --subformat=LIST Now that --subformat=LIST is deprecated and --list=hidden-options mentions --subformat=FORMAT, this might change.
