correct!
it never occurred to me to use a password list with more than one format
inside.

By default cpu formats are registered above GPU so in the specific case
you are referring only cpu formats would switch one to another.

Obviously this would not be the case
- if we put GPU format above the corresponding CPU
- if we have those formats available only for GPU
