I am finally reviewing/processing these patches. My current plan is to
generate 1.7.9-jumbo-1 using just these two patches:

0001-john-1.7.9-jumbo-1-1.7.8-jumbo-8-equivalent.patch.gz
0002-Fixes-for-dynamic_fmt-vs.-new-MD5_std.c.patch

and some minor corrections of my own (re-added Auto* external modes to
john.conf, which I think were inadvertently removed by 0001 above,
removed relbench.pl revision 3 in favor of relbench revision 4).

Then apply:

0003-All-30-patches-originally-for-1.7.8-jumbo-8.patch.gz

and generate 1.7.9-jumbo-2. Then apply the rest of the post-1.7.9
patches uploaded so far (that would be until 0049 right now) and
generate 1.7.9-jumbo-3.

Of these, -1 and -2 would be for revision tracking only, and they would
exist as diffs only. For -3, I intend to generate tarballs as well.
