At this point, shouldn't this be converted into an enum,
allowing future enhancements?
then, the option should be called --input-charset, or just
--charset, allowing --charset=utf-8 or --charset=iso-8859-1.
(The default charset could be either specified in john.conf,
or read from the environment.)
