My plan is to "burn" a few jumbo numbers instead, without announcing
them to john-users, Freshmeat, etc. (like I do for "real" jumbo releases).
So it is OK if the next release suitable for the masses is called
something like 1.7.7-jumbo-10.
For 1.7.7-jumbo-2, I think I'll pick whatever patches are ready to be
applied to 1.7.7-jumbo-1, then have you fix a further bunch of patches
to be similarly easy to apply to -jumbo-2, and so on.
