  • 0 – 127: error messages
  • 128 – 255: informational messages

• Body includes the the start of the invoking packet!

• Must not be fragmented!

• Must not be originated in response to

  • ICMPv6 error or redirect messages
  • multicast/broadcast packets addresses (with some exceptions)
